Eco adventures
Hector’s dolphins, seals and penguins can be seen from many of the beaches in the Catlins, a scenic coastal area between Invercargill and Balclutha. At low tide, a petrified forest is revealed at Curio Bay.

Wild walks
The Tuatapere Hump Ridge Track gives walkers a bit of everything - coastline, forest, sandstone formations and sub-alpine landscapes. Rakiura National Park on Stewart Island has around 245 kilometres of walking tracks, all accessible from Oban.

Fishing and hunting
The rivers and lakes of Southland produce brown trout of exceptional quality, or you can arrange an ocean fishing charter and catch a boat load of blue cod. The Longwood Range is a popular hunting ground for red deer and wild pigs.

Dunedin - Te Anau (3 Days)
The drive from Dunedin to Te Anau via Invercargill and Milford Sound reveals the best of Southland’s rural scenery and the geological glory of Fiordland.

Christchurch - Fiordland - Christchurch (9 Days)
For a longer trip, take this journey, which passes through Invercargill, Stewart Island, Te Anau and Queenstown, then back to Christchurch.

Southland Accommodation
Invercargill city has the venues and infrastructure to support large convention groups. Smaller groups can enjoy the ambience of a historic boutique hotel or a lakeside lodge in Te Anau. Spend a day at Mandeville, where vintage Tiger Moth rides will keep your delegates enthralled.

Getting Here

Plane: Southland is easily accessible by road and air. Flight time is around 3 hours from Auckland or 2 1/2 hours from Wellington. Boats and small aircraft cross to Stewart Island several times a day.
