White Island is an active volcano off the coast of Whakatane. A helicopter or launch will get you there, and a guided two hour walk (hard hat and gas mask provided) will show your group around the seething landscape.

Getting Here

Plane: Bay of Plenty is served by airports at Tauranga and Whakatane. The flying time from Auckland to Tauranga is about 30 minutes. The flying time from Auckland Whakatane is about 45 minutes.

Bus/Car: By coach or car, the road trip from Auckland to Tauranga takes around 2 1/2 hours. The drive from Auckland to Whakatane takes around 5 hours.
